Rides Arroyo Seco Race Track Arroyo Seco Race Track Located just east of Deming, plan on a great day at the track for Saturday. Head east from Deming on I-10 for 17 miles and take the Akela exit (number 102). Take a right off the exit and then right on Hwy 549 and go 1/2 mile to the first left which is the parking lot entrance. Race gas is available at the track and the closest gas station is at the Akela I-10 exit so fill up there when you exit. Silver City, Hillsboro, and the Gila Cliff Dwellings Check out beautiful Silver City to the north of Deming. Head back in time with a trip farther north to the Gila Cliff Dwellings (not to mention a twisty ride up 15). Definitely plan to grab lunch in Hillsboro after taking Hwy 152 east from Silver City. This great road makes the "Dragon" look tame and is definitely a must ride. CLICK HERE FOR THE MAP Las Cruces and Mesilla Head East from Deming to get to Las Cruces. You'll definitely want to visit the square at historic Old Mesilla. There's great food at La Posta and the Double Eagle and both are well worth a visit! CLICK HERE FOR THE MAP Columbus and the Border Columbus, NM Head South on Hwy 11 and in only 32 miles you'll find this National Historic Site border town. Columbus was the location of a 1912 raid by Pancho Villa and was one of the first areas where airplanes, automobiles and motorcycles were used as combat vehicles. A side trip to Las Palomas on the Mexican side of the border is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Check out the Pink House (definitely aimed at the gringo tourist but interesting none the less with a nice restaurant). Other points of interest in Columbus are: • Columbus Historical Museum • Pancho Villa State Park • Camp Furlong Historic Site • Old U.S. Customs Building • Tres Hermanas Mountains • The Hoover Hotel (one of the few buildings in town to survive Villa's raid) • First Aero Squadron Side Trip to Arizona Hwy 191 (aka Devil's Highway 666) It's only a short run on nice roads from Silver City to the infamous 666 in Arizona. If the weather is nice and it hasn't snowed, this is a great way to spend a long day riding! From Deming, take Hwy 180 North to Silver City. Stay on 180 and head North to Alpine, Arizona. Take 191 South from Alpine down to Morenci/Clifton. From there head back East on 78 and hook back up with 180 to head back to Deming. This road is definitely the Dragon's grand daddy!
